I'm as disappointed as the next guy to hear that #52 is going to miss the entire 2007-08 NBA season, but I'm going to *smack* the next person that compares Greg Oden's micofracture knee surgery with the Sam Bowie situation 23 years ago. These two incidents couldn't be more different. Bowie had a broken leg, and was lazy. The only good thing Sam Bowie did as a Blazer was get traded for Buck Williams (who, as I've said before, also wore #52 and remains my favorite Blazer ever).
No, Greg's situation is much more similar to Amare Stoudemire and Jason Kidd, two hard workers who both recovered 100% from their respective microfacture knee procedures.
Independent of this news, our friends to the north (who surely are plenty pleased that fate brought them the #2 selection in Kevin Durant) had compiled a really thorough list of NBA players throughout history who've had the microfacture procedure.
