It's All About Leverage

Looks like you'll be hearing me talk a lot about leverage this spring.

First, it's the theme of the arts and culture FY10 funding request to the City of Portland this year -- investments in RACC and the arts generate significant leverage, and even in a time of budget cuts it would be irresponsible to disinvest from programs that generate this kind of leverage for the benefit of all our citizens. But yeah, yeah, blah blah. Much more sexy is this piece of news:

The City of Portland has landed the TNT series Leverage, which will film its second season here this spring. Never heard of it? Neither have I. Apparently the series "follows a team of thieves, hackers and grifters who act as modern-day Robin Hoods, taking revenge against those who use power and wealth to victimize others." Starring Timothy Hutton... he's kinda cool, right? If you have seen the show, please let us know what you think!

In Mayor Adams's press release, which I have received but cannot yet find online, he says, "This is a big win for our city. This is as much about the jobs and the revenue as it is about living up to the mantle of being a film-friendly city. We hope this catalyzes other productions to set up in Portland and tap the unrivaled creative talent that calls Portland home."

This will be a nice little announcement for Sam to make at tomorrow's State of the City address... a gift, almost, to an embattled mayor who has just a few months to prove that he can still make big deals happen if he wants to stay in office. This isn't Vestas, but it's something.

Shooting will begin in late spring at locations throughout Portland.

Leverage is actually an awesome show. Season 1 was wonderful. A hit with both critics and viewers.

Leverage is seriously one of the best shows on television.

Every single member of the cast is extremely talented, the writing is top notch, everything about the show is top notch, for that matter.

I have introduced the show to several of my friends and co-workers, and, without fail, every single one of them has fallen in love with this show.

I highly, highly recommend it!

Leverage is a lot of fun.
I started watching because of Christian Kane, but stuck around because I enjoy the show.
The cast is cool and works well together. The stories are interesting and intelligent. And last but not least, it has a good sense of comedy.
I'm very happy to hear that they have been renewed for a second season.
