Visual Chronicle +14

RACC has just announced that 14 new artworks have been added to the Visual Chronicle of Portland, a fantastic city-owned collection of works on paper. These prints, photographs, paintings and drawings represent artists’ views of Portland’s social and urban landscapes. The intent of the collection is to capture the spirit of Portland as it evolves and changes -- an eclectic view of life in Portland as well as serving as a great record of some of the leading artists working in our city. With this purchase, the collection now includes a total of 256 works by 146 different artists.

More than 230 artworks by 47 artists were submitted for consideration, and from this the selection committee chose fourteen pieces by seven artists: A Raku Loren photograph, two Steve Bloch photos, a Donna Mattson painting, six etchings by Alex Lilly, a Barbara Gilson photograph, a photo by Shawn Records, and two by Lyla Emery Reno.

Here's my favorite, from Raku Loren, documenting the peace march last year.

13 other pieces from the main collection are on view now through August 13th in the lobby of the Antoinette Hatfield Hall, 1111 SW Broadway. Artists included in the exhibit are Michael Brophy, Jana DeMartini, Manuel Izquierdo, George Johanson, Andrew Larkin, Mike Lindenmeyer, Jim Lommasson, Henk Pander, Jacob and Arnold Pander, Joe Sacco, Jesus Lopez Vega and Sherrie Wolf.
