Ring Those Bells

In addition to being Veteran's Day, today marks an anniversary for Mighty Toy Cannon and his dear wife, the Dog Walkerer. We chose 11/11 as our wedding date because we figured it would be easy to remember and because, I guess, we're both veterans of a sort.

To link this post to Culture Shock's theme of arts and culture in Portland, let me note that the talented and stunning Olga Sanchez, artistic director of Miracle Theatre, presided over our wedding with great aplomb. It was a simple, home-based affair honored by the presence of many of our Culture Shock friends and colleagues.

While immersed in the business of the day, I received an e-mail from my dearest friend and partner in life that included the following video link :

Steve Earle and his most recent wife, Allison Moorer, express lovely sentiments in this duet. I also find it comforting to know that I'm not alone in being an aging, balding man who is fortunate to be married to a beautiful wife.

That song breaks my heart. As does your post. Thank you! And congratulations on this and all your anniversaries; may a thousand flowers bloom in your hearts.

Isn't simplicity the best and often most beautiful thing ever? I recall the poems that were read at your wedding evening were remarkably poignant as well. Happy Anniversary!!

Thanks for all the best wishes. And now, could you make the rain go away?

Well, I didn't make the rain go away, but it's gone! That's lovely. I'm wondering, were you wed at 11:11 on 11-11? And what do you have planned for 11:11 on 11-11-11?

We didn't wait until 11:11 on 11/11 because that would have delayed the champagne. (Though, I suppose, we could have had Mimosas at 11:11 am). 11/11/11 isn't too far off, so I'll get started on the planning!

I've been too busy with oher things this week to keep up with the blog, but I am finally getting caught up tonight. I'm feeling a little emotional already today, for some reason, and this post made me all misty. Happy anniversary to you both.

Here's another video that made me cry happy tears today, just to be reminded again of what a wondrous time we're living through.
